The Spirit of Christmas: Gifting Time, Honouring Memories

I love you neither with my heart nor with my mind. My heart might stop, and my mind can forget. I love you with my soul because my soul never stops or forgets – Rumi

The gift of time during the Christmas period is a gift that transcends physical presents and material exchanges. Dedicating time to loved ones becomes an invaluable gesture as we recognize that our experiences and connections are the true essence of life.

Time allows for shared stories, laughter, and the creation of lasting memories. It is only when time is no longer on our side that we understand the fragility of life and the transcendent nature of our existence within it.

Today, I reflect on my year as a caregiver and appreciate every interaction, even though at times my heart has been burdened by the sadness and frustration felt by those who seem lost and undervalued.

I  wonder how far we have drifted as a humanity that once revered the wisdom of our elders but has now become immune to their struggles. How difficult it is to be alive in a body that no longer functions and a mind that drifts between the worlds searching for a place to rest.

I also remember the families who will feel a profound sense of loss and longing as they reflect on the tangible absence of those who have left this world. In the stillness when memories echo their absence and moments may be shrouded in shadows, my hope is that every tear shed is a testament to the profound love that lingers, the deep appreciation of the impact their loved ones had and the legacy they have left behind

Grief is a complex journey, and the holidays can intensify the emotions we carry in our hearts. While words may never fully encapsulate the depth of our feelings, let the love that once was, and continues to be, guide us through the bittersweet moments of this season.

May the coming year bring glimpses of light, and may we find comfort in the knowledge that we are surrounded by a community that cares. So let us embrace the healing power of connection, reach out to those who understand, and allow the warmth of memories to bring comfort.

Let us all be reminded that…

The best use of life is love. The best expression of love is time. The best time to love is now.
