Honouring each other in the Care Industry and finding Equanimity

As carers, we are all aware of how hard it is not to get pulled into the drama of our work as we strive to live up to the standards of co-workers who are happy to cross their own safety boundaries and make it difficult for us to draw a line in the sand while instilling our own.

But we are all so different, and we are all only doing the best we can with what we have and it is important to recognize that each unique style of care is based on our own values and beliefs. I was conflicted, frustrated and needed to retreat, reflect and step into the energy of equanimity.

What follows is a blend of ideas and a somewhat unconventional look into the diversity of compassion and empathy. So read, ponder and read again and maybe it will strike a chord with you too!

Compassion is observing someone and your energy doesn’t move, empathy is observing someone and your energy does move. In other words, compassion and empathy can be distinguished based on the energetic response they elicit within us when we observe someone else’s actions.

Compassion can indeed be likened to seeing through the eyes of Source. When you observe someone with compassion, your energy remains steady and unaffected because you are aligning with the perspective of Universal energy, which is pure love and understanding. From this higher vantage point, you recognize the inherent worth and divinity within each person, understanding that their experiences and emotions are part of their unique journey.

By maintaining a state of compassion, you can hold space for them without judgment or the need to fix or change anything. It is a state of unconditional love, where you acknowledge their human experience while recognizing the underlying truth of their eternal, limitless nature.

Empathy, on the other hand, is described as observing someone, allowing them uninterrupted airtime even if that disrupts your inner peace, and adapting to the shift in energy. Validating their feelings and experience is possible without entanglement in low vibrational frequencies provided that any underlying triggers are kept in check.

You can live in their reality for a moment but don’t unpack and stay there

Compassion is holding steadfast without judgement, while empathy can validate and foster a deep understanding and emotional connection. By understanding these nuances, you can cultivate a balanced approach that incorporates both these valuable qualities with little disruption to your inner peace.

So, when your sense of self-worth is seemingly under attack and all you want to do is defend your actions and maintain the higher ground, take a deep breath and remember that changing how you see yourself will help change how others see you. Navigating this industry is a unique discovery of challenging moments and opportunities to align with the thoughts of the Universal mind that is within us, around us and serves us now …
